Bellevue 2044 - Healthy & Resilient Environment
Thank you to the over 7000 individuals who participated in the update to the Bellevue 2044 Comprehensive Plan. The updated plan was adopted by City Council in October of 2024. You can read the plan and past documents at www.bellevuewa.gov/comprehensive-plan.
In this section you can find information about proposed changes to the Environment, Utilities, and Parks, Recreation & Open Space chapters of the Comprehensive Plan
Addressing climate change and planning for a more sustainable and resilient future is a key focus area for this update. The Environment chapter sets direction for how the city will reduce carbon emission, protect open space, and plan for a resilient future. The Utilities chapter addresses issues related to water conservation, waste, and working with PSE to move to renewable energies. The Parks, Recreation & Open Space chapter sets policies around acquiring land for parks and natural spaces, maintaining and maintaining the city's urban forests.
Changes in these elements could include:
- Support for environmental justice and ensuring impacts of climate change don't disproportionately impact the most vulnerable.
- Continued support for the Environmental Stewardship Initiative.
- Support for resiliency in city systems.
- Strategies to adapt to climate change.
- Further support for enhancing the city's tree canopy.
