In this section you can find information about proposed changes to the Environment, Utilities, and Parks, Recreation & Open Space chapters of the Comprehensive Plan

Addressing climate change and planning for a more sustainable and resilient future is a key focus area for this update. The Environment chapter sets direction for how the city will reduce carbon emission, protect open space, and plan for a resilient future. The Utilities chapter addresses issues related to water conservation, waste, and working with PSE to move to renewable energies. The Parks, Recreation & Open Space chapter sets policies around acquiring land for parks and natural spaces, maintaining and maintaining the city's urban forests.

Changes in these elements could include:

  • Support for environmental justice and ensuring impacts of climate change don't disproportionately impact the most vulnerable.
  • Continued support for the Environmental Stewardship Initiative.
  • Support for resiliency in city systems.
  • Strategies to adapt to climate change.
  • Further support for enhancing the city's tree canopy.
