The first section of the Comprehensive Plan includes a vision statement that paints a picture of the future we are working towards.
The Vision Statement describes where we are going. It's a north star that unifies all the different elements of the plan.
The Vision Statement describes what is important. It is an expression of shared values that focuses decision making.
The Vision Statement inspires people to go beyond the basics. It challenges us to be innovative and take a leadership role in the region.
As part of the Periodic Update to the Comprehensive Plan we're updating the Vision Statement to reflect changes in the way people live, work, and play in Bellevue and to reflect changing needs and priorities. In this update we are emphasizing the need to:
In addition to the broad citywide vision this section also includes Vision Statements that anchor each chapter of the Comprehensive Plan and provide direction.
On this page we invite you to review the Draft Vision Statements and provide feedback. Your feedback will be shared with the Planning Commission and other Boards and Commissions and be used to refine the final draft of the comprehensive plan. You can provide specific feedback on our questionnaire or leave a more general comment.

As a free society we have collectively agreed to Laws that guide our behavior. Being safe in this society is of paramount importance and adhering to these laws is essential. For those that choose to ignore the laws, police enforcement is the means to being safe. Therefore, a robust police force, and swift application of the laws by the courts, should be at the top of the list of priorities. It all breaks down; Parks, Transportation, Social Services, Housing, etc. if we aren't safe from those that break the laws, that we have all agreed will be enforced.
For example: We don't want park benches in Bellevue, if they are going to be used as beds/living spaces, for homeless people.
We don't want low-income housing if it's going to house drug addicted thieves to roam our neighborhoods.
Good intentions can be fulfilled, but we have to support the framework (Police, Laws, Courts) that are in place.

We are senior citizens living at Evergreen Court on 124th Avenue NE. We are hoping that there will be more public transportation options available as we still want to be out and about.

Please revise the statements to affirm the city's commitment to Public Safety and Infrasturcture . The word map should show Police, Fire, Schools, Parks, Roads, Water, Sewer - the fundamentals of the city administration.
We can't take these essential items for granted. These visions statements imply city staff and consultants are distracted by items that take away resources from the fundamentals.
The research is designed to elicit comments on Sustainability, Equity, Diversity Environment, and Climate Change. These are all important to all of our futures, but can't be successful if we lose sight of the fundamentals.

Please, please, please focus on public transportation (general Eastside, Bellevue, etc.). As we start building more housing, we need to have public transport be something that people look to use, otherwise, traffic is going to be horrible, and we'll harm the environment with all of the idling cars on the road.
I think this should be prioritized even if there's people who want to make things easier for cars (e.g. parking) or preserve our single family home neighborhoods. We're not going to be able to please everyone, but putting these concerns to the side is a must to achieve our goals of cheaper housing and helping the environment. I think these things need to happen at the same time as well. Public transport may not be used very much now or there may be some demographics that don't use it, but if we make it easier to use (or there become so many people that we have to), I think a meaningful number of people will be grateful for it, even if they're not used to it now.
I'd also like Bellevue to truly focus on fostering an environment for creative minds and take pride in being a place that's artistic/creative/interesting. We say this is important, but I think there should be a much bigger focus on this and ensure we don't just focus on making a place that's great for businesses and suburbs.
